50-50 Formula for the reservation
After declaration of minority status, Jamia Millia Islamia is going for new reservation policy. The university has yet to decide whether the new policy will be implied this year or the next year.
The new policy passed by the Academic Council states that 50% seat will be reserved for muslim students and the remaining 50% will be for the general students. The vice chancellor of the university Mr. Najeeb Jung told that Jamia Millia islamia will be the first university in the country to reserve 10% seats for muslim girls students. 10% of the 50% seats reserved for the muslims will be for the muslim OBC, 10% for muslim girls and the remaining 30% for the oher muslims.
The vice chancellor Mr. Najeeb Jung said that the number of girls students will be 30% and that will be an important step. He said that the quality education will be the top priority in Jamia. Common entrance test will be conducted for both general and muslim sudents and there will be different merit list considering the entrance test. The vice chancellor said that even after being declared as the minority institute Jamias statndard of education will improve. Every student in Jamia is selected through entrance test only. He said that even after being declared as minority institute the general students will have more opportunities.
Admission starts today
Jamia runs around 240 various courses and the admission process for these courses starts today i.e. 1st April (Friday). Prospectus and forms will be available to students in the university from today only. Prospectus and forms can also be downloaded from the website "http://www.jmi.ac.in". Jamia intakes around 2400 students for the graduation level and 600 for the post graduation. Students have to clear the entrance to get the admission. Entrance test is conducted in the month of June and the results are out in the end of June. Classes starts in first week of July.
Jamia is once again starting B.A. courses in coming session. Last year this course was closed as students used to bunk their classes and due to which the number of absenties were growing. This time this course has been redesigned. Earlier 190 students were admitted in this course but in the coming season Jamia will intake only 50.
Getting Rid of More Entrance Tests
This time Jamia administration has given some benefits to the students. Till last year more than 50 tests were conducted for admission in different courses but this year there will be common entrance test for several courses. Vice chancellor said that this time they will conduct around 5 entrance tests only and students will get rid of more tests. For example: one test will be conducted for Social Sciences and any course that comes within this category their merit list will be prepared from one single test. V.C. said that students from every part of the country come to Jamia for tests. And they used to stay more than 10 days to appear in different tests but know we have limited the number of tests and will be good for them.
