Architecture student shows at Newcastle University

Newcastle University

Third year students of the BA in Architectural Studies at Newcastle University were given a choice of four projects offering a wide variety of themes such as oscillations between past and present, cultural agency, alternative learning environments, and fields, rooms and interstices in a dense urban environment.

This show covered a wide variety of themes such as oscillations between past and present, cultural agency, alternative learning environments, and fields, rooms and interstices in a dense urban environment.

Students produced a design for a new building on the site of the recently-demolished Gateshead car-park that acted as an afterimage of the old structure. Through studies of the volumetric and the morphology of the previous building, and its architectural relations with the city, proposals for a Cyclotel’ were developed for a new architecture that worked through a kind of oscillation between past and present.
