A labourer was killed and three others were
injured today when a shell exploded
accidentally in Mattan area of south
Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
The labourer was killed when a live shell, inside the dead stock, went off during trans-shipping in a load carrier at Kheribal in Mattan area, 65 kms from here, officials said. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Hamid Dar, a resident of Qazigund town in south Kashmir, they said. Dileep Kumar, a migrant labourer and two women, who were passing through the area at the time of explosion, were also injured.
The women have been identified as Muneera and Gowhara. The officials said the live shell had been mistakenly placed in the‘dead stock’ which was disposed off as scrap by the army unit concerned.
